The Brotherton Family has been serving Washington residents since the early 1900’s (1916 est) starting with Rio trucks in Walla Walla, Washington. The patriarch of our family was our great grandfather, Frank Brotherton, whose motto was “if you treat your customers like family, you are unbeatable”. Upon his passing in 1932, his son, Marion “Tex” Brotherton, took over the helm. The family carried such nameplates as Star, Marmon, Cole 8, Dort and even had Mack Trucks!
In the 1940’s, Tex acquired the Chrysler Plymouth franchise and was one of the most successful New Chrysler dealers (per capita) in the nation. William “Biff” Brotherton, joined his father in 1968Thank you for visiting Brotherton Buick GMC. I would like to take this time to share with you a little about our history and why we are a true family business.
Biff was not completely satisfied there though: he felt he could do so much more in a bigger market. Therefore, in 1984 he sold everything and moved to Seattle, acquiring Frederick in Downtown Seattle. Biff won several national awards including Master Dealer as well as serving on many Seattle initiatives. Biff also carried several other franchises, including Lexus, Land Rover, Sterling and even DeLorean to name just a few.
In 1994 I joined him at Frederick. I then moved to his Lexus store for three years, spent a short time at Land Rover.
In 2001, with heavy negotiating, I convinced the family that Renton should be our new home and that Brotherton should be on our storefront once again. We all agreed and the move to Renton soon followed.
In 2005, I made an offer on the local GMC Pontiac dealership in Renton. At the same time, I bought out Biff and formed a new corporation, Brotherton Pontiac GMC. In 2006, we were awarded the Buick Franchise and in 2009, thru GM’s restructuring, we became what we are now, Brotherton Buick GMC.
We know that the previous generations worked hard to not only run a great business, but to help build a legacy that would carry on to the next generations. We have big shoes to fill, but are sticking to the plan of taking care of our customers and employees..I would like to thank you for your time and let you know that we understand there are a lot of places you can choose to do business.
